This section describes the settings for the Document type **Parquet** in Phase 2. > [!NOTE] > **NOTE:** > > Parquet is a binary format. To ensure that the data remains unchanged when reading a Parquet source, the encoding must be set to `ISO-8859-1` – as is the case with other binary formats (e.g., PDF, Excel). ## Settings ![](https://cdn.document360.io/4be90b94-ec83-41d8-963e-962df16110d4/Images/Documentation/image-D6MAHH1Q.png) | Setting | Description | | --- | --- | | Check input format | If this checkbox is selected, the source structure fields are checked against the format templates stored there during parsing. If a value violates the field's format template or exceeds the field length, an error is generated. In the event of an error, the process does not stop immediately in Phase 2, but only at the end of Phase 2 or after 50 errors. **CAUTION****:** Using the format check affects performance and should only be used when absolutely necessary. | | Check min/max settings | Specifies whether to check the number of repetitions (of fields and nodes) in the source structure. | | Remove blanks (XML will be normalized)) | Leading and trailing spaces in string values are removed. | | Execute Semantic check | Not available for Parquet. | Configuration in Phase 2, which determines the format of the input data. The document type determines how the parser reads the data and transfers it to the source tree. Examples: EDIFACT, XML, JSON, CSV, X12. Parsing: The input data is parsed into the source structure. The source structure represents the input format. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a structured text format for storing and exchanging data. Content is enclosed within freely definable tags such as `<order>`. XML is human-readable, machine-processable, and platform-independent. In the Lobster Data Platform, you can receive, parse, and generate XML data. Optional exam in Phase 2. After parsing, the profile checks the source tree against XML rules, e.g. whether there are mandatory fields or whether field values correspond to a list of values. If the check fails, the profile aborts with an error. ## Related - [Analyze file for structure](/dialogue-analyse-file.md) - [Semantic check](/phase-2-semantic-check.md) - [Extended (Phase 2)](/profiles--tab-3-advanced.md)
